BCC at Brandeis University

I recently visited Brandeis University. Here are a few takeaways from my experience:

  • Located in Waltham, MA (Boston suburbs) Brandeis is a medium-sized private university. The university was originally established in 1948 to serve Jewish students and women, combatting discrimination in higher education. It is now open to students of all backgrounds and beliefs.

  • The tour experience at Brandeis was seemless - easy (and free!) parking, a beautiful welcome center, and a comprehensive information session led by a current student and an Admissions rep. The campus felt peaceful and welcoming, a great choice for a student who wants to be close to the experience and resources of Boston, but does not want an urban college environment.

  • Brandeis students tout their school’s collaborative, non-competitive environment and strong support of a variety of student interests (42% of students double major!). I think this student quote from an admissions brochure exemplifies the academic vibe at Brandeis, “Sometimes the world tells us to turn down our ambitions, or that being smart ins’t cool. At Brandeis, having diverse interests and getting super deep into them is something that’s revered.”

Go Judges! (or is it Go Owls? The university’s mascot history is a little confusing)
