BCC at the University of Denver

I recently visited the University of Denver. Here are a few takeaways from my experience:

  • The University of Denver is a mid-sized private university with 5,800 undergraduate students located 15 minutes from downtown Denver. Students who love the outdoors will appreciate the easy access to mountains (60-minute drive) and campus culture that supports hike/mountain bike/ski/snowboard/camping adventures.

  • I thought U of Denver’s take on the quarter system was pretty unique. Their fall quarter starts in early September and ends at Thanksgiving, giving students a full six weeks between Fall and Winter quarters. Our tour guide mentioned that many students like to use this time to work seasonal jobs, explore internship opportunities, and of course, head to the mountains.

  • Outside of the classroom, students enjoy excursions sponsored by the most popular club on campus, The Outdoors Club, and watching the U of Denver’s D1 mens hockey team. The National Hockey League-sized ice rink right in the middle of campus is a fun perk for students and community members.

  • While students take advantage of on-campus life, they also appreciate the school’s commitment to study abroad. Cherrington Global Scholars initiative through U of Denver pays for student’s roundtrip international airfare costs and visa application costs encouraging the mindset that study abroad is an accessible part of the college experience.
