BCC at Sacramento State University

I recently visited Sacramento State. Here are a few takeaways from my experience:

  • Sacramento State is one of the 22 California State University campuses (like San Diego State and Cal Poly SLO). It is the 6th largest of the CSU campuses with 31,000 students.

  • I enjoyed the shady, very walkable campus. There are trees everywhere, and lots of open areas for students to gather. The campus has easy access to downtown Sacramento for concerts, restaurants, Kings games, and A’s baseball games during their temporary stay at the River Cats stadium. (We went to an A’s game and it was super fun, great energy!)

  • Like many other CSU campuses, Sacramento State has some impacted majors, which means these majors have more requirements for admission. The most notable impacted major is nursing, so students interested in this field should educate themselves on requirements before applying.

  • In what I assume is a push to create a more vibrant on-campus environment, Sacramento State is requiring on-campus living beginning in Fall 2026. Incoming first-year students (non-transfer) will be required to live on campus for two years.

  • The CSU application opens early this year - students can begin their Fall 2027 applications on Cal State Apply as of August 1.

Go Hornets!
